Lookbook | Dressed for Rain

September 30, 2010

It’s raining like cats and dogs outside this morning, which means all the conventional rules of dress for the office are chucked out the window. I still can’t get Summer out of my mind as we head into the cooler Fall months.  My Saint James nautical striped shirt makes an appearance today for a casually dressed outfit that will take me from one place to the next as I ran through the city for appointments and window shopping. Talbots has a collection of pants perfectly fitted for different body shapes and sizes. One of my favorites is the Signature Fit Lindsey Refined Cuffed cropped pant in navy, which is a staple in my closet because it goes with everything.

The trench coat or a Mack, as the Brits call it, should be a staple in your closet. You don’t have to splurge on a Burberry trench thanks to the wide array of lower end designers and labels that have created their own rendition of the trench for less. The French Connection Macks Trench Coat is totally chic and reasonably priced. It will keep you warm and semi dry.  I am not really ready to put on my Hunter Wellies just yet. I have three pairs in different colors, along with my J. Crew wellies of course. The weather isn’t cold enough for me to commit to wearing wellies all day so I am opting for my Melissa Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Bow boots. I bought them in black and a light coral color on Gilt Groupe. They are the perfect alternative to long rain boots.

Aside from the basics, all that are needed to complete my look are a feathered cloche to keep my frizzy hair semi hidden, pearl stud earrings and a chunky gold necklace.  As always, I am running around the house trying to find an umbrella, which I tend to lose after every rain fall.
