What is it about lace that makes it so sexy and a little taboo to see as outerwear? For the fall, designers took this delicate fabric outside of the bedroom and onto the runway. Prada ‘s fall runway looks was all about the sexy matron. The demure cuts and silhouettes of Prada’s dresses were transformed into sexy romantic pieces by using delicate lace. Pastel and nude turtleneck dresses underneath lace transformed the too sexy for the runway frocks into tasteful and demure treats.
Temperley London added delicate lace trim to dainty bow dresses in punchy colors such as yellow. Anna Sui and Balmain took the less is more aproach by using a touch of lace here and there on dresses. Balmain covered up its cutout mini body con dresses with lace for a “peek-a-boo” effect while La Perla and Givenchy jazzed up black lace.
Designers proved that lace can be worn outside of the bedroom. Those who used lace in their collections designed tasteful and romantic pieces that were a complete opposite of what most people would think of as trashy. The fabric isn’t as transient as some might think. It’s staying power is probably due to the fact that most designers find it alluring and romantic and can somehow create sophisticated pieces time after time.
