The dog days of summer are not over yet with the hot and humid 90-degree weather we’re having in NYC. It’s the part of the summer I dread the most. The time when it’s so sticky you can barely breathe, your makeup drips off your face as soon as you step outside the door and it seems like the MTA won’t give us a break with air conditioning or wind fans in the tunnels. These days call for easy dressing. That means ditching all the frills of coordinating outfits and opting for a no-fuss dress I can slip on without a thought. My choice for those days is often a floral print dress in a light gauzy or cotton fabric. Now I know what you’re thinking, “A floral print dress. How groundbreaking.”
A floral print dress in a vibrant color is a statement maker in and of itself. There is usually no need to accessorize for the risk of looking too high maintenance and quite frankly, being too hot with layers of accessories on. I just add some sunglasses, a bag, and sandals for an easy look to run errands around the city or meet friends for lunch.
I try not to spend too much on summer dressing by frequenting one of my favorite high school brands, Old Navy. This store, owned by Gap (another favorite), has classic silhouettes in varying size ranges for standard and plus sizes with a price tag that can’t be beaten. Old Navy has the best summer dresses most of which are under $25 because they always have coupons to offset the retail price.
For my recent trip to Miami, I bought several dresses from Old Navy, this floral number included. This is not a sponsored post, it’s merely a tip I want to share with you. The dress also comes in black, which I also bought. I usually dress it up with a pair of dressy espadrilles like the ones from Express or Castaner. I also buy sunglasses from Amazon or Sunglass.LA because I lose them all the time. I operate on the mindset of splurging on timeless pieces and looking for affordable options for in-season and trendy items. Shop my favorite summer floral print dresses below.
