I’ve been dying to go to the Dog Pound gym for a year now after seeing countless Victoria’s Secret models get chiseled for their runway shows. I had that opportunity last night when Glossybox invited me to attend a class to launch their newest collaboration with Fighting Pretty, an organization that creates care packages for cancer patients to help them feel strong and beautiful during and after treatments.
You might ask what boxing has to do with cancer. Well, Fighting Pretty founder, Kara Dolce, discovered she had stage 3 cancer at age 26. Yes you read it right, 26, after a routine self breast exam. She had just started dating her now husband, Nate, a week prior to diagnosis. The “C” word did not deter him from still pursuing and supporting her. Kara underwent chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation and more. She mentioned feeling unpretty at times due to the loss of her hair and identity. She found her self through wearing fabulous blonde, brunette, short and long wigs; I wore bright lipstick; big earrings; backless shirts and high heels.
As a symbol of encouragement and perseverance, her best friend’s mom, another cancer survivor, sent her pink mini boxing gloves to remind Kara to keep fighting and stay strong. Kara then passed those gloves on to another friend who was going through cancer, who then passed it on to another woman.
Four years after her diagnosis, Kara founded Fighting Pretty, whose purpose is to give strength to other women battling the disease by sending them Pretty Packages. These packages include items like lipstick, eye shadow, a scarf, nail polish and their iconic mini-pink boxing gloves – as a symbol of strength. To date, Kara has sent over 1000 Pretty Packages to women all over the world. Glossybox decided to partner with her to create a super box filled with over $250 worth of products to raise more money to help the organization create even more Pretty Packages for cancer patients.
The limited edition Glossybox x Fighting Pretty Box launches August 11 and will include products from Biossance, DOUCCE, Deco Miami, EMK Beverly Hills, BORGHESE and Fango as well as the Fighting Pretty mini boxing gloves. The total value of the box is over $250 but you can snag all these goodies for just $40. The net proceeds from each box will go to Fighting Pretty. Now isn’t that a fine treat? This limited edition box will be a great present you can purchase and send to someone who is also fighting the disease.
So back to last night! My friend Nicole and I joined several beauty and fashion bloggers at Dogpound for a fun boxing workout that had us sweating. We finished off the evening with some delicious Watermelon cocktails with Sauza 901 tequila and yummy snacks. We also got some Ghana braids, aka Boxer Braids, courtesy of Guingui, who does the most fabulous braiding styles. She books up pretty fast on Styleseat but her prices are unbeatable.
Make sure you head to Glossybox and sign up for the August 11 launch of the Fighting Pretty Box.
