Nivea Lip Butter Review

I recently got my hands of a package skincare and beauty products that included three Nivea Lip Butter flavors.  The lip butters had been making waves in Europe for at least two years prior to launching in the US last year.  They collection comes in four flavors:

  1. Smooth Kiss (Original)
  2. Raspberry
  3. Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss
  4. Caramel Cream Kiss

The Nivea Lip Butter comes in a small .59 oz tin filled to the brim with the formula and fit perfectly in my makeup bag or on my desk for easy application.  The formula is colorless when applied thinly over the lips, leaving a nice glossy sheen.  I have been using Smooth Kiss for a week now and my lips feel very soft and supple.  I don’t really have to reapply for an hour or two, although lip gloss addicts will apply pretty frequently.

All three formulas can be worn alone or on top of a lipstick for added sheen. Just make sure to go easy on the amount applied. If you need more hydration and moisture on the lips, I suggested applying a thick coat of the Nivea Lip Butter at night to soften you lips overnight before applying your lipsticks, especially matte colors. No one likes scales on the lips.

All the formulas contain petrolatum (similar to Vasaline jelly) so it really helps with moisturizing and leaving lips flake free.  If you are an anti-petrolium gal or guy, skip this since petrolatum is listed as the first ingredient. It also has shea butter, castor oil and almond oils for added moisturization.IMG_1348

Caramel Cream Kiss has an intense smell that reminds me of the rich Christmas cookie candles my mom usually burns around the holidays.  My co-worker loved the scent and says her boyfriend can’t get enough of the scent when she applies it at bed time.  They do say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.   Vanilla& Macadamia Kiss has a subtle scent and is a favorite of my mom, who often shies away from strong perfumes.

All in all, I give the Nivea Lip Butters an A for a good formula that doesn’t just sit on the lips but penetrates to hydrate and moisturize.  This is going to be a winner in the colder months when the air is so dry that chapped lips is a given. At just $3.79 a tin, you can have one of each tin at work, gym bag, night stand and purse.
