What to Wear to A Black Tie Wedding

What to Wear to a Black Tie Wedding
Like it or not, it’s wedding season! As the invitations roll in, we’re all challenged with what to wear. Many weddings this summer state the dress code as ‘Black Tie’ or ‘Formal’ which can sometimes be confusing. Traditionally black tie wedding is very fancy, with evening attire worn by guests. This means, the ladies will be in evening gowns or below the knee dresses. This is the time to glitz and glam. A word to the wise: Don’t dress to outshine the bride. You will be laughed and talked about by everyone at the party.

If a formal wedding is being held in the morning or afternoon, it’s perfectly fine to wear a knee length or below the knee dress. Fabrics can include silk, silk faille, lace and chiffon. For late afternoon and evening weddings, try your best to go long. For summer, opt for emeralds, reds, blue, pink and even yellow. Never wear white! It’s such a faux pas and disrespectful to the bride. Black is acceptable for an evening wedding. Play up your accessories to zhuzh! up your outfit.

Here are three looks we’re loving plus a curated collection of over 100 gowns appropriate for a formal wedding in every price range.  You can also rent a gown from Rent the Runway to make it easier.
