The Spice Girls Get a New Musical ‘Viva Forever’

June 27, 2012

Well this is something I didn’t expect to see anytime soon.  Nineties British pop girl group, the Spice Girls reunited yesterday for the media launch of the new musical Viva Forever, based on the band’s songs.   Judy Craymer, who also produced the Broadway hit Mamma Mia! is also producing this show.

“It’s better than we could ever have imagined,” said Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm.  “They sing it better than us,” added Melanie Brown, the band’s “Scary Spice.”

Get ready to don your crop tops, cargo pants and platform sneakers ladies, 90s girl power is coming back next year.  Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham – also known as Baby, Ginger and Posh – were also at a media launch in the neo-Gothic Grand Hotel, where the video for their 1996 hit Wannabe was filmed.

Viva Forever, which previews from November 25, opens on December 11 at London’s Piccadilly Theatre.  Here’s to hoping the show comes to the States next year to spice up my life!
