It’s impossible to resist getting all lacquered up in the Summer, especially when all ten toes are exposed in sandals and open toed stilettos. The ever increasingly popular trend of painting nails a bright color for the Summer months stands true this year as many brands have whipped up mouth watering brights that can grab attention from space. Yellows, pinks, neon greens and blues are all hot hues but one that really stands out in the color spectrum in 2012 is the color coral, which made a huge splash on the Spring runways. Since color blocking is such a big trend for the season, coral and it’s complimentary colors are front and center, especially at the nail salons, where brands like OPI, Essie and CND are flying off the shelves and onto the nails of fabulous fashionistas.
Here are four nail lacquers in varying shades of coral that will flatter various skin tones and Summer tans. We love Essie polish and have been coveting the Resort collection but had to stop all the presses upon seeing Braziliant, a deep coral color that had us at hello. The formula goes on smoothly, just like the other three pictured above and has good staying power. It retails for $8. The Essie Summer collection is absolutely darling, with beach ready bright shades.
OPI Nail Lacquer introduced a mega-sized collection of colors inspired by Texas. And if you are familiar with the Texan culture, you know the mantra is ‘Go big or go home.” Mouth watering shades of plums, pinks, teals, greens and khakis with names like Big Hair…Big Nails, Guy Meets Gal-vestion, Too Hot Pink to Hold ‘Em, Do You Think I’m Tex’y?, Houston We Have a Purple, Austin-tatious Turquoise and I Vant to Be A-Lone Star turned us into chameleons, changing our nail polish almost every other day but what had locked and loaded was the bright fun and flirty Y’all Come Back, Ya Hear?, a carousing coral we can’t get enough of.
We’ve been suddenly seeking Sula after trying the Vermillion shade on both hands and feet. What’s so revolutionary about Sula’s nail lacquer is the Paint & Peel formula, which allows you to take off your polish simply by peeling it off when you’re ready for a polish change. With so many color options, a girl can sure get use to the idea of painting on the go.
Say you have a date after work but your favorite manicurist can’t fit you into her packed schedule, just peel off your morning color and paint your nails another color, dive into the Dove but try a color blocking technique and compliment the subtle shade with Azure or Ruby to show off your fun side.
Last but certainly not least, is Creative Nail Design (CND)’s Tropic Coral, a lighter coral color that is work appropriate. The color isn’t as intense as the other colors but it is soft and romantic, offering women intimidated by the punchy, in-your-face corals a mild and sweet alternative. A bonus for those who haven’t tried CND nail lacquers is that they offer shellac polish, which lasts over two weeks before chipping or fading.
