Pre-Fall 2011 | Jason Wu

December 12, 2010

Designer: Jason Wu
Inspiration: The thirties and Art Deco and the Séeberger brothers’s early twentieth century street-style photographs.
Trends & Colors:  Subdued colors like salmon and violet with a dash of gray; cigarette heels; floral embroidery on skirts, jackets and dresses.
My Thoughts: I am once again woo’d by Jason Wu’s second pre-fall collection. It’s classic American sportswear with a twist. Wu breathed new life into old silhouettes, showing an embroidered one button wool coat worn cape style. Wu’s hemlines levitated the hemlines for pre-Fall bringing them to midi length.
The collection was two sided, the first pieces intended for Wu’s younger fans who love to traipse  downtown to art parties and exclusive soirees; the second was for the elegant forty-something woman who belongs on boards of MoMA and FIT, the woman who is celebrated almost every day at swanky events we often find out about a day later.
Wu’s fan who cannot afford his expensive clothing will rejoice in a bevy of new accessories that pick up the color scheme and feel of the collection.  Be on the lookout for platform cigarette heels and an eyewear collaboration with Modo.
