On Trend | Fair Isle Knitwear for Winter

December 13, 2010

My girlfriends are in the process of planning a ski trip to Lake Tahoe in January, which means I need to start planning my cold weather outfits for the slopes and apres ski.  Since I’ll most likely stick with the bunny slopes or chasing hot guys as they zip down blowing powder in their wake, I need some uber fashionable clothes to wow.
The most important component for my ski vacation wardrobe is what to wear apres ski. You know, when we all get together with the boys by the fire in a cozy cabin. Apres ski calls for Fair Isle sweaters, which was a big theme in Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s playful D&G Fall/Winter 2010 collection.
There’s something to be said for Fair Isle pattern knits, which make an appearance each winter season. The age old adage, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” comes to mind when I think of this knitting technique popularized by the Prince of Wales in 1921. The limited color combination makes Fair Isle knits appropriate for the office or an evening cozying up to your beau at a nice restaurant.
You don’t have to splurge to get this trend.  Retailers from Forever 21 and American Eagle to J.Crew and Rugby have clothing, shoes and accessories in varying price ranges for babes on a budget. If luxury is more your forte, opt for a D&G Wool Blend Cardi-coat, which would look tres chic paired with tights and a button down shirt.
