Foot Notes | Rebecca Minkoff to Launch Footwear Collection

August 26, 2010

Designer Rebecca Minkoff is quickly building a fashion empire.  Minkoff, noted for her leather handbags and accessories, branched into clothing, launching her women's collection in 2008. Following the success of this endeavor, the she expanded her line into men's bags and accessories, aptly labeled Ben Minkoff, inspired by her grandfather Ben's combat fighting skills in WWII and the classic bags that were carried in the Air Force in 1940.  Women's Wear Daily reports that Rebecca is launching a 25-piece footwear collection, which will debut next month during her Spring 2011 presentation at New York Fashion Week.

According to WWD, "the styles will include a distressed, split-sole penny loafer (with a signature Rebecca Minkoff penny), a stacked tan-and-black mesh pump, cork wedges with cutouts and relaxed leather flats with a hidden mini wedge speckled with gold grommets. Most of the styles display signature leather detailing, called the “MAB flap.” (MAB is short for Morning After Bag, Minkoff’s first handbag, on which the feature appeared.) The Doll ankle bootie, in leather, suede and calf hair, will be offered with every new line. "

“I’ve always been obsessed with shoes,” said Minkoff, “I’ve been wanting to do this for three years, but I wanted to wait until it felt right.”  The shoe collection will retail between $160 and $398 and will be available globally and on rebeccaminkoff.com.
