Style Files: How to recreate Casablanca with your summer ensemble

April 6, 2010

As I sit in my not so air conditioned living room dreaming of a cooler destination on the global map, I can’t help but dream of exotic locales with dashing men to buy me cold drinks, say a gin martini. I just wrote about the white boyfriend blazer and why it is a must have for the summer previously.  A reader sent me a note asking how to dress up the white blazer so I went wild with my imagination for a Casablanca themed outfit.  This outfit is so hot you’ll have him wondering why “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.”

Borrowing inspiration from Humphrey Bogart, I pieced together a black and white outfit a female version of Rick Blaine would have worn in the movie.  Starting with the white See by Chloe Blazer, I paired a black Herve Leger skirt with a slightly dressy white tank then accessorized them with Miu Miu platforms and a statement necklace in lieu of the bow-tie worn by Bogart and chandelier earrings. Wavy hair or a slightly messy ponytail along with a nice tan, compliments of the spray bottle or smooth even complexion for darker skin women would complete this look.

Oops I forgot, the entire look would not be complete without Chanel Coco Rouge lipstick in a flattering shade, By Kilian perfume for a sensual scent and lacy La Perla bra underneath that sheer shirt and a clutch to hold your little phone, cash for a cab and a credit card. So go ahead lady and let your imagination go wild. Here’s looking at you kid.
