I have to give it up to Rihanna for finally speaking out about the abuse she suffered under the hands of R&B singer Chris Brown. According to ABC News, the National Domestic Abuse hotline’s call volume spiked by 72% from teens calling in to seek help. That is being a positive role model. Love does hurt but seeing an abusive relationship for what it is and getting out is a courageous thing, which Rihanna did.
Since the Chris Brown incident earlier this year, the chanteuse has been busy in the studio recording her new album Rated R, sitting front row at some of the top fashion shows in New York and Paris and gracing the covers of magazines. Rihanna debuted her first single “Russian Roulette” tonight on ABC’s 20/20. It’s a powerful song with powerful imagery of her playing Russian roulette with a guy, suffocating in a prison, being shot while under water and getting run over by a car. She is taking what happened into her own hands and using her music as therapy.
I absolutely love the lyrics to the single and I’m sure it’s going to be a hit on the airwaves. Check out the video above. On a side note, I have to say I love all the outfits in the video, especially the sharp shoulder long sleeved mini dress. Moving on…let’s stay on message, love does not have to hurt.
