The Children’s Place to auction celebrity designed messenger bags to benefit literacy

April 6, 2009

As a member of the Junior League of Washington, I am volunteer with various organizations around the city promoting literacy so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to write about the Nickelodean Kids Choice Awards.

The Children’s Place, was backstage during the 22nd Annual Kids Choice Awards getting celebs to decorate messenger bags that will go on auction starting tomorrow April 7 until April 14 to benefit the organization Books for Kids. American Idol judge Paula Abdul, Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford, I Carly’s Jennette McCurdy and Tony Hawk were among the celebs who will be putting their work of art on the auction block to promote literacy among all children with a special emphasis on low-income and at-risk preschool-aged children.

Books for Kids has provided over 5 million books and created 56 libraries to aid in helping children learn how to read. To bid on one of these messenger bags, follow this link to bid on one of the messenger bags, www.ebay.com/thechildrensplace. It will make a wonderful gift.
