I went on a shopping excursion yesterday to scope out what’s hot in the city and discover a few stores in Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle and U Street. I went into vintage shops, a consignment shop called Smash – where I bought a green 1960s coat that was immaculately preserved that I felt as though spending only $30 for it was robbery. I even persuaded the sales associate to give me 10% off of my purchase.
The evening ended at Shake Your Booty (2206 18th St NW), a women’s clothing and accessories shop hidden on 18th Street in the border of Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle. It was around closing time and I was in a bind looking for an outfit to wear to a wine party. Three dresses and accessories later – just trying on…not really purchasing, I begun perusing the accessories case to see if I could get any broaches to vamp up the dress I was wearing. I ended up not purchasing anything because I didn’t want to spend on impulse.
The owner of Shake Your Booty told me that she spends a lot of time in New York City scouting boutiques and vendors for the latest trends and stocks her store with nothing but the best and most affordable pieces. Among the mix of accessories were some adorable business card holders that would make Lilly Pulitzer proud. The fabric business card holders were so delicate and chic that I couldn’t resist doing a one minute video segment on them. Each card holder is accessorized with a beautiful broach that compliments the fabric. I wanted to snag one right then and there but I decided I would wait until next month to make this purchase. It’s about $45 but worth every penny.
