Style Help: What Should I Wear for the US Open Men’s Finals

September 5, 2008

Ashleigh: Ok, call me naive, but if I am lucky enough to score tickets to the men’s final for the Open this sunday, what is appropriate attire (would be a late afternoon game)? I can’t think of anything that I have?! Limited budget if I have to find something new.

Makeda: Absolute max price?

Ashleigh: eh, around $375 (preferably lower, I have my eye on some new cocktail dresses for fall) but really depends on what it is and needs to be ready to wear. I’m short and alterations won’t be feasible.

Makeda: This is an easy one Ash. With your amazing figure and very classic style, I have two dresses that are absolutely perfect for your afternoon outing at the US Open.

The first pick is by one of your absolute favorite designers, Nanette Lepore, whose Gin Sling Sheath Dress, $335, is something Anna Wintour might wear if she were on a really tight budget. The dress is will accentuate and flatter your figure. The sweetheart neckline is perfect for a gold necklace. I think pearls will be too much with this outfit, especially to a late afternoon tennis match. Take some pointers from Anna Wintour’s style book and choose this dress for a ladylike yet understated sexy look. Gold Jimmy Choos would really work wonders with this dress.

My next dress of choice for your US Open outing is by none other than the woman who knows how to drape a woman’s body with pinache, Diane von Furstenberg. The Finola Silk Chiffon Dress, $375 in green and dark grey kit kat club print is very demure. Although most of your body will be covered up, just the way it should be at a tennis match, the sheer fabric gives a peek at the lacy chemise underneath. You can get away with a single strand pearl necklace and slingback heels with the Finola dress. Either one of these dresses will be appropriate for the US Open Men’s finals. My style muse was none other than Anna Wintour, who always looks refined and well put together front and center at Federer’s matches.

Great advice! I love both of them and happen to have a pair of gold Jimmy’s sitting in my closet. I’ll be thinking of you when Federer throws me his sweat towel 😉
