Giving back is beautiful and @kissproducts, @impre Giving back is beautiful and @kissproducts, @impressmanicure and @joahbeauty are stepping up to the challenge by partnering with @red to donate over $100k from proceeds of their limited edition collection of lashes and press on nails to help fight pandemics like COVID and AIDS around the globe. | A D
I’m excited to partner with KISS, imPRESS and JOAH Beauty on this fundraising effort because as a West African, it’s so important to me that we work towards eradicating deadly pandemics like AIDS and COVID on the African continent, where resources and access to healthcare can be daunting.
Head to my stories to learn more.

Is it just me or do you feel the greatness of the universe and the wonders of the creators when you stand beside the ocean?
It’s freeing yet scary at the same time because no matter how confident you are in navigating the waters, you are never in control. You can be swept away with the passing of a strong tide. I guess it’s a metaphor for life or whatever.
Don’t y’all mind me. I’m just taking it all in and reflecting on how lucky I am to be born into the era I was born in and in the specific geographic location and to my parents. Not all of us are that lucky.
Cease your small moments and celebrate them all because they are fleeting.

Rediscovering Puerto Rico this week and I’ve fal Rediscovering Puerto Rico this week and I’ve fallen head over heels for the people, the food, the history and the culture.
Old San Juan is celebrating its 500 year old history this year. So far I’ve spent three days exploring El Morro, which was built in 1539 to defend the city from attacks by sea; Castillo San Cristóbal, built to prevent attacks by land.
I also visited San Juan Bautista Cathedral, which has the oldest spiral staircase in Puerto Rico and America built in mortar in the 16th century. It has 88 steps and leads to the church bell tower.
Fun fact: Look down when walking the blue cobbled stoned streets of Old San Juan.
During my walking tour on Monday, our guide said, “Despite its great beauty, Puerto Rico is not paradise; it is a real place with real people living in it, not a postcard.”
There is so much history and pain of colonization, which started with the Spaniards and continues to this day with the United States.
Excerpt from the Harvard Political Reciew:
“The Constitution’s territorial clause gives Congress the power to determine which parts of the Constitution apply to territories and which do not; accordingly, Puerto Ricans were not granted citizenship until 1917, and only then so that they could serve in World War I. It took until 1947 for the people of the island to be given the right to vote for their own governor. Even today, only about half of American adults know that Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens…
Though statehood for Puerto Rico is unlikely to pass…Congress should show the same level of concern for the rights of the disenfranchised citizens of Puerto Rico that they do for those in D.C. The United States benefits from having Puerto Rico as a colony, but at the expense of the Puerto Rican people.”

Letting go of people who don’t love or appreciat Letting go of people who don’t love or appreciate me has been the biggest lesson I’ve had to learn over the last few months and I’m wiser for it.
Often times, we stay uncomfortable or miserable in friendships, families relationships and situationships in order to avoid conflict or ruffle feathers. While we stew over relationships, the other party usually glides by unbothered. Misery loves company and I had to learn not to be a guest at the table.
I had to get out of my comfort zone, stop being a pushover and put myself first. I learned that cutting out toxic, ignorant and miserable relationships freed me from my feelings of anxiety.
You’ve got to leave people behind in order to grow and I’m doing just that in this new chapter of life.
Can you relate?
