While we know sequins aren’t exactly news, what makes this fall’s sparkling and shining pieces exciting are their casual utility. We’ve seen sequins on runways, in magazines, and at soirees for years now, but this year they are making their way to the office, the classroom, and even the couch. Gone are the days when shimmer was reserved for special occasions–this fall’s glistening basics exude casual chic, and are so understated that they can be worn in the (gasp!) daytime.
Allow us to demonstrate:
The above pieces, which undoubtedly glamorous, are ideal for rocking from AM to PM. We’d like to pair the Alice + Olivia striped top with a pair of black jeans and flats for a lunch date or a shopping trip–even office-wear, for us lucky gals who can wear jeans to the workplace. The Madewell tee and Vince sweatshirt are even more relaxed–we’d throw either on to make errands a wee bit more exciting.
Bottoms are a bit riskier, but we’re confident that when worn with opaque tights, both the See by Chloe shorts and the Windsor skirt (a steal at $32!) can be worn throughout the afternoon and evening, and in our opinion, the J.Crew skirt doesn’t even need them. The trick is to avoid looking like an entertainer or a walk of shamer when wearing sequined bottoms is to keep the top solid colored–we recommend black or white. A simple tee and blazer combo would dress down any of these pieces.
