Newly appointed director of jewelry design for Tory Burch, jewelry designer Justin Giunta made his Washington, DC debut at Upstairs on 7th with the launch of his DEVIATED by Justin Giunta collection to DC's fashion scene in February. Giunta is the mastermind behind Subversive Jewelry, which favors the use of found objects. Each piece is handcrafted of entirely vintage materials. Conceived on the premise of "more is more", Justin Giunta says, “Subversive Jewelry is meant to challenge the traditionally held view of beauty, luxury, and value, as it is ascribed to jewelry; to undermine an established institution”. DEVIATED by Justin Giunta is his diffusion line (recently worn by the likes of Alicia Keys) with prices ranging from $85 – $550.
In addition to Giunta's new and well deserved position with Tory Burch, he was the recent recipient of the CFDA Swarovski Award for Emerging Accessory Design in 2009 and Ecco Domani's [Italian wine] first-ever award for accessories design in 2008. Giunta has joined other icons of fashion with a collection of jewelry for major retail chain Target, debuted past runway collaborations including Rachel Roy and Chris Benz and has been recognized by fashions elite publications: ELLE, BAZAAR, W and VOGUE.
