Supermodel Chanel Iman was in town last night to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art and to honor her fellow supermodel Alek Wek for her humanitarian efforts.
Chanel, who lives up to her name in beauty, grace and style, arrived at the museum with her mom China Robinson. I was one of the first to meet her when she arrived and took the opportunity to take some photos before she was swarmed by people.
I have to say that Chanel Iman is one of the most down to earth women I’ve met. I’ve heard horror stories about other models, who are so mean and demanding but not this one. Despite being crowned the next in line to take over Tyra or Naomi’s title, she’s got a very level head. The girl is flawless and has a smile to match. She carries her blackberry bold (i think it’s a bold) with her and uses twitterberry, which talked about briefly. She’s on twitter and wants everyone to follow her tweets @itsmechaneliman.
I know what a lot of you are probably dying to know. What was she wearing? First, the shoes she was wearing were fierce. The strappy Bluemarine heels were just sparling with every step. Her strapless black and white dress was by none other than Jason Wu, who’s been getting a lot of attention lately for being a go to choice for First Lady Michelle Obama. Chanel Iman gave some kudos to Washingtonians for having style and I have to agree with her. The style quotient last night was incredible. Ladies were dressed to the nines.
Here is a video from Chanel Iman’s speech last night. Even though Alek Wek couldn’t be there to accept the award, guests still had a great time.
Chanel wasn’t the only celebrity there. Actor and Comedian Chris Tucker, actor Jeffrey Wright and the Young and the Restless actress Victoria Rowell were on hand to get the party going as well.
Victoria was showing off some African pride in her hat, which I adored. This woman looked really good in her black top and high waisted pencil skirt. I think her showstopper was her Yves Saint Laurent heels.
Check out Victoria Rowell’s YSL shoes. Oh yea and her legs are incredible too. I need to hit the gym to do some calve raises. Victoria, who’s book The Women Who Raised Me, is out in stores right now has a new book coming out next year called Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva. You can check her out at http://www.victoriarowell.com
