I recently transitioned from a casual work environment to a corporate one after the company I work for got acquired by a larger company. This gave me the opportunity to step it up in the wardrobe department. I officially said goodbye to jeans and flats and hello to dresses, skirts, and heels. For some, dressing corporate is a huge chore or an inconvenience because they equate it to being boring. WRONG!
You can look a lot more conservative and stylish at the same time with the addition of key pieces in your closet. Most people think solids are the way to go, but I’m here to show you how patterns work seamlessly in your corporate wardrobe. Fall is all about plaid, and Target has us covered. From patterned shirts and work joggers to wrap dresses and dusters, Target has really gone mad for plaid—in a good way, of course.
Plaid is such a versatile print that you can incorporate it into any of the current pieces in your closet. Spruce up a basic black pant by topping it with a feminine plaid blouse, of which Target has a myriad of variations. Add a black pump and gold accessories and you’re good to go. If you’re a bit more fashion forward, I challenge you to opt for a print-on-print number by pairing a windowpane plaid pant, such as an ankle-grazing chino or jogger, with a white windowpane top.
For the blazer lovers, you won’t go wrong with a chic blue plaid blazer and a pencil skirt. Casual Fridays don’t have to be a challenge with a blazer. For me, skinny dark blue jeans look so much better when topped with a solid tank or tee and a plaid blazer with either flats or a moderate heel.
For my curvy chicas, Target’s new Ava & Viv collection is a breath of fresh air. The knit wrap dress in an elegant black-and-white print wrap is a must for your work closet or even a night out. If you want to keep it solid for the sake of looking slimmer, accent an all-black outfit with a plaid scarf or shoes.
