Saint Laurent

Pop was the central theme in Saint Laurent’s Fall 2014 RTW Collection displayed in Paris this week, with outfits expressing the mid-sixties moment when pop was at its prime. Since his arrival at Saint Laurent, Creative Director, Hedi Slimane has focused his attention on the Rock and Roll stage.

This collection took Rock ‘n Roll to another level while reaching out to a more classically elegant dresser as well. Sparkly frocks and slouchy blazers, recognizably Saint Laurent, encompassed the elegant look. To set the show up like a real pop show, they strategically placed real life rockers Alex Turner and Miles Kane of Arctic Monkeys and pop stars in the front row. Slimane has also devoted a lot of his work to the source materials of youth culture.

There were a total of fifty-four outfits, with a significant number of capes, shift dresses and over twelve coats. The phrase casual extravagance pretty much sums up the collection. The shoes were also a key accessory in the ensemble of each look with varied styles of boots and Mary Jane flats.

The most notable pieces include the first look of the show, a sparkly dress with a silver overcoat and patent black boots as well as a variety of leather jackets representing the pop era.
