Topman might have taken the London audience out of its typical element of great coats, top hats and tailored suits with its latest presentation at London Collections: Men. A line up of relaxed fitting black trousers remained with no voice as they allowed jackets, shirts, and blazers speak about the “Techno Cowboy” collection. It was a Nashville meets Rodeo Drive feel as models showcased the only visible variation of the collection.
Topman showcased white silk shirts with hand-embroidered floral necklines opening the show. Varsity style jackets continued the floral pattern leading to long-sleeved western shirts embellished with jewels. A touch of color was added to the collection with red and brown, but for the most part black and white held its ground for the western themed collection. Varsity jackets and vests broke up the floral necklines giving life to a sleek look for the collegiate consumer.
It was refreshing to see blazers introduced into the collection, however the western appeal still remained which isn’t in line with the London styled man. Even with the elaborate embroidery and American Western charm, most of the collection didn’t give way to variety and more so played along the same lines with very little imagination that we wouldn’t expect from Topman.
