Before Brad Pitt’s much talked about Chanel No. 5 perfume campaign, Marilyn Monroe made women run out to their beauty counter for the scent she loved so much. You could say her endorsement catapulted the iconic perfume’s reputation into the stratosphere. Yesterday, Chanel released the lost audio footage from an April 1960 interview the actress gave to French Marie Claire’s Georges Belmont. To the question “What do you wear to bed?” Marilyn answered:
“You know, they ask you questions…just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed? A pajama top? The bottoms of the pajama? A nightgown?’ So I said ‘Chanel No. 5!’ Because it’s the truth!”
The clip also features the never published image of Monroe nude under silk sheets with a bottle of Chanel No. 5 next to her on the nightstand. Oh what a temptress.
