Tadashi Shoji Spring 2013

September 14, 2012

Tadashi Soji took inspirations from his travels for his spring 2013 collection. California, the Gobi desert, the caves of Dunhuang and the ancient capital Xi’an.  The show opened with a blue sheath dress with delicate embroidery resembling a Venetian table cloth.  He continued his exploration of California with lace shorts and breezy blouses.  Staying true to his romantic aesthetic, Mr. Shoji sent down the runway gorgeous lace dresses with intricate needlework that are sure to grace the red carpet come awards season.

The Gobi desert inspiration came in the form of long gowns in rose, jade and blue with patchwork patterns.  Perhaps the piece the resistance was the ikat print dresses made of 40 individual pieces of gazar.  Mr. Shoji makes beautiful pieces that enhance and compliment a woman’s body without being so overt. Cocktail dresses with Peter Pan collars, sheath dresses, trapeze dresses, caplet gowns and tiered tulle gowns will be a hit among celebrities like Taylor Swift, Maria Menounos, Emily Blunt and Octavia Spencer.
