Actress Sarah Jessica Parker became a style icon and a household name thanks to her role as love and labels chasing, sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw in the iconic HBO series Sex and the City. Though show went off the air years ago but fans sought solace in the two movies that came after. We saw Carrie married to Mr. Big, but not before more heartbreak. Though Parker has said she would like to do a third movie for the franchise, there is no word yet whether producers will get on board. Enter the Carrie Diaries, a prequel to the successful SATC novel, which chronicles Carrie’s teenage years in Manhattan before chasing men and Manolos.
It was announced today that CW network has ordered a pilot for the Carrie Diaries, with the staring role going to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actress AnnaSophia Robb. The blond beauty tweeted, “so excited for carriediaries” today. I can definitely see Robb as the 80s teenage version of Carrie Bradshaw. Also staring in the show are The Killing’s Katie Findlay and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’s Ellen Wong as Carrie’s besties before meeting Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.
I am not sure how excited I am about this project but I will be reading the book before the show comes out. If scripted well, this series has the potential of bringing a new generation of fans to the Sex and the City franchise.
