Burberry struck gold when it nabbed Christopher Bailey as its creative director because season after season, he delivers an impressive and beautiful collection that takes my breath away. Yesterday’s autumn/winter 2012 collection was no different. The theme was Town and Field, opposing concepts that Bailey managed to bring together seamlessly and beautifully with ease. Town was all about ruffles and peplum on skirts; jackets with ruffled pockets tied neatly and oh so pretty with a delicate bow.
The final look (first picture below), was a quilted burgundy coat worn by Cara Delevingne. This coat has Kate Middleton’s name written all over it for one of her many appearances for the Queen’s Jubilee. Representing “Field” were shearling lined herringbone jackets, a waxed cotton parka, and country critters like sparrows, owls, and doggies naïvely embroidered on shirts, and printed or appliquéd on oversize striped tees. The ankle booties and newsie caps, as minute as they might have been, were the perfect companions to this collection. Kudos to Bailey and his team for once again showing us that heritage style is eternal, save for occasional updates to modernize.
