This is a busy week for Karl Lagerfeld! For starters, he’s showing the Chanel Spring 2012 couture collections today in Paris, then comes the launch of his lower priced Karl line on Wednesday. On Friday, he starts appointments for his higher priced Karl Lagerfeld Paris collection. Whew! Is his job ever done? Nope! With so many things on his plate, is there any time for a full 8 hours of sleep or does he just power through the with with naps? Fashion never sleeps and neither does Karl apparently. Let’s not forget his newspaper editor gig for the Metro newspapers on February 7th.
Wednesday marks the beginning of the expansion of Karl Lagerfeld’s brand to the masses, with Net-a-Porter getting exclusive selling rights on the first go round of his lower priced line, which we’ve seen previews of in the past few months. Today comes the unveiling of a few photos from his Karl Lagerfeld Paris collection, which pays homage to himself with pieces that are Oh So Karl!
Priced to retail from $300 to $2,500, the Karl Lagerfeld Paris line will include 300 pieces, including white shirts, lean black leather pants and jackets that emulate the designer’s style. Women’s Wear Daily reports that the collection includes:
Options for women range from roomy cocoon coats with leather trim to sequin-fronted tops and dresses. The men’s collection includes a cardigan with an industrial zip, a felt blouson with leather trim, and a black military greatcoat the designer has already adopted. There’s also a capsule of blazers, shirts and slim rocker pants Lagerfeld has cheekily dubbed KGB. “Karl for Girls and Boys,” was the rapid-fire response to a reporter’s puzzled expression.
The collection will be available in 50 to 60 stores throughout Europe and about a dozen in the United States.
