Two words that described Tommy Hilfiger’s spring 2012 collection? Pop Prep! Yes ladies, Pop Prep. With splashes of color all over the runway in the form of yellow, red, orange, pink, turquoise, burgundy and black hues, Hilfiger sent a strong message that even in a doom and gloom economy, one must show optimism through color. That was the ‘pop.’ Prep came in the form of turquoise and orange glen plaid on sixties inspired coats and dresses, men’s inspired loafer pumps.
Hilfiger continued the borrowed-from-the-boys trend with shirt dresses, leather jackets, dinner jackets with preppy piping and cropped pants with black and white stripes reminiscent of the ’60s. The collection was modern and fresh with a mix of 60s and 70s flair. There were caftans and ponchos, and lots of them, on the runway. Of course they were modernized with color blocking.
