Ralph Lauren Spring 2012

September 17, 2011

Iconic American designer Ralph Lauren revisited what launched his career 40 years ago this week with a collection heralded as an ode to the Great Gatsby.  Lauren, who designed the costumes for the original movie staring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow in 1974, re-imagined the jazz age cool aesthetic with a mix of romantic and masculine flair.  Sticking to whispy white and soft pastel color schemes, he showcased glamour of eras past with bias-cut dresses; wide leg pants and masculine suits with a feminine mystique; flapper dresses with soft feather fringes; and silk and chiffon gowns draped effortlessly to show of the delicate decolletage.

Lauren’s Great Gatsby inspired collection couldn’t come at a better time.  Baz Luhrmann is remaking the movie staring Carey Mulligan as Daisy, and though his wife will be making the costumes, we have a feeling Carey and the other starlets in the film will be flocking to Lauren for their red carpet gowns.
