Remember Eliza Doolittle at the horse races in that giant hat and oh so constricting black and white dress? Watching her saunter on the grass with her stylish cane made me want to wear that ridiculously glamorous hat. Going to the Derby has changed drastically in terms of color scheme and decorum of dress. Nowadays, hemlines are shortened, the rules are more lax on the types of shoes you can wear on the green and punches of color are infused into the dress code.
Vineyard Vines takes preppy dressing to new levels as the official label of the Kentucky Derby. Shep and Ian, founders of the label that is known for its colorful power ties, along with their design team have designed a collection of men’s and women’s clothing and accessories that Derby and polo goers will don all Spring and Summer long. The women’s collection includes colorful printed silk dresses and tops, Kentucky Derby inspired prints on scarves and bags and a lovely straw hat. The men’s collection includes an assortment of ties and pocket squares as well as the classic navy blazer to elevate the Derby look.
