Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer and the beginning of my fall closet reorganization. I am spending the coming weekend in the basement sorting through my cold weather clothes and bringing up fall staples I plan on wearing again. This right of passage is necessary for my to see what’s missing in my wardrobe and which items I need to purchase to make my style current and on point.
On my wish list from last year was the need for some more coats in colors other than black, red, and brown. I need some jewel tones and a pastel of some sort to brighten up my outfits. As we all know, coats are one of the pricier items we invest in so it’s important to be strategic about which one to purchase. I have a few statement coats on my radar, including two from ModCloth that are a lot less expensive. The green one above reminds me of something Kate Middleton would wear. It’s cut to perfection and fits so well.
I love the idea of capes as outerwear in the fall. They serve as the perfect layering piece for all types of outfits, including jeans with riding boots, a simple dress, or a midi skirt. I got all giddy when I saw this houndstooth cape on ModCloth’s website. This coat, just like most of the items on my list, is available in sizes XS – 4X.
A girl can never have enough little black dresses, especially when it’s made in a luxe velvet leopard fabric and cut in a flattering tulip hem. This frock would be perfect for a holiday party, girl’s night out, or a date night. It comes with a slip dress underneath so it’s not too sheer. Opt for simple black tights if you’re not into patterns and bold prints.
You know I love my printed and statement tights come fall. These ones embroidered with metallic stars are a sight for sore eyes. I already stocked up on some printed tights but couldn’t resist snagging this one as well. It’s one size fits most but I’m a size 14/16 and these fit me perfectly.
last but certainly not least is another printed dress because a girl can never have enough printed dresses. Am I right? This houndstooth mesh dress flatters in all the right places makes a bold statement without being too jarring. I plan on styling this with opaque tights and booties come fall.
