Tis the season to give and receive and this year, I am focusing my efforts of giving instead of receiving. For the entire month of December, I am dedicating my blog and social media pages to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS globally. I kicked off World AIDS Day with a pledge to support a (RED). Started by U2 singer Bono as part of his ONE Campaign to end poverty and eradicate HIV/AIDS, (RED) partners with iconic brands like Vespa, Apple, Amazon, Belvedere, Tarte Cosmetics and Vosges to create red versions of their best selling products with profits of sales of (RED)-branded products and experiences going contributed to the Global Fund.
To date, (RED) has generated more than $500 million for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, to support HIV/AIDS grants in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Zambia. 100 percent of that money goes to work on the ground – no overhead is taken. Over 100 million people have benefitted from the Global Fund grants, which are used for prevention, treatment, counseling, HIV testing and care services.
This holiday season, I’m urging all of you to give consciously by opting for cause-related gifts for your loved ones.
