I’m one of those girls that wears dresses all year round. Why? Because it’s easy to get dressed, requires little accessorizing and always looks put together. I switch to heavier fabrics in the cold weather months for additional warmth. One of my favorite fabrics to wear in the Fall and winter is lace. I know what you’re thinking, “lace is such an old lady fabric.” WRONG! There is such sophistication to lace pieces when done right.
Lace is Sexy
I love the allure of skin peeking through lace garments. I’m not talking lingerie! Let’s leave that for later. You can show slivers of skin in a demure way by wearing dresses with sheer lace sleeves or skirts with an unlined lace hem. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are fans of the fabric and have been seen wearing Diane Von Furstenberg, Temperley London and Dolce & Gabbana lace frocks that elegantly show off parts of their body. I have been wearing the bow and pearl embellished lace dress from the Atlantic-Pacific x Halogen collection for Nordstrom to brunches and cocktails. It’s such a feminine dress that can be dressed up or down depending on my choice of accessories. Lace dresses in deep colors like burgundy and navy are perfect for fall.
A little lace goes a long way
Afraid of looking like you just stepped out of your granny’s closet? Try lace embellished garments to ease into the trend. If you’re not comfortable being draped in lace, start by wearing lace-trimmed separates or accessories. Options like this dress with lace piping from Milly or this off-the-shoulder top from New York & Company are perfect ways to add a little lace to your wardrobe. I also love these lace trimmed pants from Eloquii.
Lace Trousers Are A Statement
I just ordered these easy lace pants from J.Crew to wear for holiday festivities. It comes in sizes 00 to 24 and in four colors. Tailored trousers cut in a lace fabric make a statement and turns heads. Less is more when wearing them however. I prefer a solid colored silk cami and a blazer or a cashmere sweater topped with dainty gold accessories to keep my ensemble from looking too busy. Pair lace trousers with a pair of tartan print pumps or strappy sandals heels like Stuart Weitzman Nudist Heels for a killer outfit.
Dress Down Lace
You can definitely dress down a lace dress or separates. Add a moto jacket on top of a dress or skirt to keep the look a bit more casual. I sometimes like to dress up my denim jeans with a lace top for Friday date nights. Tone down a lace skirt by pairing it with a slouchy sweatshirt or a plaid button down shirt.
When The Mood Strikes, Go All Out
I’m not one to live the confines of fashion rules. If you want to wear head to toe lace, I say go for it. Have fun with fashion.
