My mom used to make these flaky, delicious meat pies back in Ghana and she still makes them when I go back home to visit. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty with this dish. It requires just a whisk and your hands so don’t worry if you don’t have a fancy Kitchen Aid mixer.
We used to serve this warm meat pie with a cold bottle of Coca-Cola back in Ghana. It’s was the perfect after school treat or Saturday afternoon snack. The only thing I hated doing was rolling the dough, which was the only way my mom would make this for me. Follow this recipe and the result will be a flaky meat pie to wow you guests.
You can make these ahead and freeze the unbaked meat pies in freezer bags and pop them in the oven for 30 minutes. I usually serve this now as a meal with a fresh side salad and a nice beverage. Try this and let me know how it turns out.
Another fun filling for the summer can be crab or lobster. Cut a large Russet potato into small cubes then heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in onion and potatoes. When onion is translucent, add 1 can (16oz) of crabmeat and stir. Reduce heat to low and cover. Cook for approximately 10 more minutes or until potatoes are tender.

Your recipe was a hit. I am an African-American woman married to a Ghanaian man. I may not have upbringing on making meat pie, but I can cook anything with a great recipe. This was wonderful and everybody loved it. I even have orders for me to make it, LOL. I just noticed the recipe is no longer on this site, which is sad. Luckily i got it when i did.
OMG Shawnta,
I’m glad you loved this. As I said it’s my mom’s recipe and she’s such a wonderful cook. I told her I’d bribe her if she gave me more of her recipes to post. I have fixed the recipe link so it works now. I hope you share with your friends.
