We’ve all heard those familiar words, “Dating in Manhattan sucks!” or how about “I’ve been here for over a year and haven’t gone on a decent date,” and my personal favorite, “I am on OK! Cupid, Match.com, Tinder, Plenty O Fish, how come I can’t find a decent guy to go out with? I’m about to resort to Craigslist.”
All these familiar gripes come from women living in Manhattan, causing many of them to move back home or to other states where men roam like cattle. With over 10 million people living on this island, it sometimes feel as though there isn’t a single decent guy out there to date. Enter Swoon, a dating app that aims to help women cut through the clutter of online dating.
The founders hosted a relaunch party at the Gramercy Park Hotel this evening and we got the scoop on what make this dating app so popular. In attendance were That ’70s Show actor Wilmer Valderama, Real Housewives of New Jersey‘s Albie Manzo and socialite Tinsley Mortimer.
Created by women for women, Swoon addresses many of the concerns women have with online dating. For starters, “there are no long forms to fill out (who reads those anyway?). It’s an iPhone app that is linked to your Facebook profile. Don’t worry it doesn’t post anything on your wall. The app just pulls you pictures so you have a few decent ones to start,” says Swoon’s product head Molly Messenger.
How does Swoon work? It aggregates a plethora of potential suitors in your area using a proprietary algorithm that also targets men in your age range, those with shared interests – via Facebook likes – and even friends you have in common. All of this happens anonymously by the way.
If you see a guy who sets your heart ablaze simply swipe right for yes or click the smiley face. If not, swipe left or click the awkward grin face. But wait! You accidentally rejected that hottie without looking at the rest of his pics? Don’t fret! Simply shake your phone like a salt shaker and he pops right back immediately. Uh-huh! How do you like that for second chances.
If a guy you like adds you to his yes column as well, you’ll both get a match notification on the app, which allows you to start corresponding and see where the wind takes you.
With the median age of guys on Swoon being 27, finding an eligible bachelor should be fun and a bit easier. An added bonus is the fact that members have to be at least 21 years of age to join. So what are you waiting for? Start swooning. It’s free!
