Karen Walker Fall 2013

Karen Walker’s fall 2013 collection suggested a return to the subversive nature of early – and our favourite – Karen Walker collections.

Titled ‘New Rose’ the collection was based on Siouxsie Soux’s marriage of romance and utilitarianism in her dress sense, and that dichotomy was present throughout. Walker re-introduced khaki and black, and sat them beside girly pastel pink and yellow (particularly present in the new Beau Coop for Karen Walker collection). Smock-like vests and jackets – almost traditionally Japanese in silhouette – were paired with naiive silk dresses and school-girl socks.

Styled by long-time collaborator Heathermary Jackson, it calls to mind ‘Dust’, one of Walker’s early collections, filling us with anticipation that Walker is returning to her thematic, alternative roots – even just a little bit.
