First Look: Hedi Slimane’s First Collection for Saint Laurent Paris

July 4, 2012

Hedi Slimane is making big changes as the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent…I mean Saint Laurent Paris.  Aside from the name change, the iconic French fashion house is getting a complete makeover.  From its name to the decor in its Paris salon to the hangers that the clothes will hang on, it seems it’s out with the old and in with the new.

Slimane’s first collection for Saint Laurent Paris is also being shown at the Grand Palais in Paris just for select retailers – all of whom give it a resounding thumbs up.  Though we won’t get our fill of the women’s resort, men’s spring 2013 and accessories collections until they hit stores, we’ve got a few sketches that will whet your appetite.

Slimane’s women’s resort collection includes short dress with light padding on the shoulders (shoulder pads??), silky, feminine blouses, sharp tailoring in pinstripes; cigarette pants, skinny jeans and HotPants.  The collection also pays homage to vintage YSL with tuxedos and silk crepe tie-neck bouses.  As for the color palettes, expect black, white, gray, fuchsia and red.  Animal prints, sequins and silver and gold lamé fabrics also make an appearance in the collection.
