Banana Republic Designing a Collection Inspired by Anna Karenina

July 3, 2012

Banana Republic is making giant leaps in its mission to provide collections that women want.  First it partnered with the small screen gem, Mad Men, to create a successful capsule collection that premiered aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight, now it has moved on to the silver screen, partnering with the much anticipated Focus Features film, Anna Karenina, staring Keira Knightley and Jude Law. Banana Republic partnered with the film’s costume designer Jacqueline Durran to create the capsule collection that will have a “Fifties-influence of Dior’s New Look. It was historical but had a twist to it as well.”

The collection lands in stores and online this October and will have a Russian aesthetic with faux fur on collars, richly-textured fabrics in black and dove gray – ahh there’s that Dior influence – lots of pearls and crystal jewelry as well as handbags.  There’ll also be a few coats that channel Romantic Russian Imperialism.  Prices will range from $29.50 for jewelry and $39.50 for a blouse, to $250 for a handbag and $325 for a coat. Spasiba!
