Summer Skin Savers To Have In Your Cabinet

June 18, 2012

Products I use in the winter find their place in the trash can as soon as the warm weather swoops in during the spring/summer months when heavy skincare products are no longer needed.  Instead of sticking to the same products all year round (not so smart), I switch to lighter face and skin care products that won’t clog my pores when I sweat like a maniac during humid New York and Washington, DC summers.  So here are a few products I have stocked in my beauty cabinet.  The list includes some of my can’t live without products and a few new ones I’ve recently discovered and loved.

Salvatore Ferragamo Signorina Eau de Parfum ($98):  No one likes smelling like they just stepped out of an incense shop during the summer, especially not me. So I switch from more musky scents to fresher and more crisp scents.  I’ve been obsessed with Ferragamo’s latest perfume Signorina since March.  The perfume is very clean with notes of jasmine, delicate peony and feminine roses lending to its floral notes.  Though it lasts all day, I usually wear it in the evening.

Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream ($95): I’ve been using Caudelie’s eye cream each spring and summer for the past two years. Though I don’t suffer from wrinkles, bags or saggy eyes, I use this as a preventative measure.  What’s even more important is that this eye cream doesn’t irritate my eyes like some other products have in the past.

Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Le Brillant ($48): I try to keep my makeup very simple during the summer because I hate having it drop down in the humid weather.  Instead of piling on foundation, I usually just use a little concealer with a translucent powder and a bright lip. I pull my hair in a bun and rouge my lips with Guerlain’s Rouge G de Guerlain Le Brilliant in a va-va-voom red for a more dressy look.

Kiss My Face Moisture Shave, Lavender & Shea ($7.95): Soft, smooth legs and pits are a must during the summer. What with all the strapless dresses, mini skirts and shorts, oh and let’s not forget bathing suits.  I love the Kiss My Face Moisture Shave in Lavender & Shea because it smells divine and keeps my skin soft after shaving without any irritation.

Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System/Grey ($195): I can’t go a day without using my Clarisonic to get rid of makeup and impurities off my face.  The tool is a bit pricey but it saves me a lot of trips to the spa for facials.  It exfoliates my skin and allows my makeup and skincare products to go on smoothly and stay on longer.

eos Smooth Lip Balm Sphere, Sweet Mint ($2.99): This ball lip balm is such a conversation starter.  It fits in all my bags and keeps my skin soft and supple for hours at a time.  I love the mint flavor, which is cool and refreshing during the summer months.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen Lotion SPF 12 ($9.99): My Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Suncreen lotion is equivalent to my VISA card, I don’t leave home without it.  The short amount of time it takes to apply this yummy smelling sunscreen is worth it because my skin is protected from harmful UVA/UVB rays.  The ultra moisturizing formula keeps my skin hydrated for 12-hours.  The only time I reapply is after coming out of the water and even then, I reapply a little bit to keep my skin protected all day long.

Orlane Super Moisturizer Light Cream ($165):  I’ve been using this product for a year now and can’t see myself switching to any other moisturizer during the summer.  The formula is light yet hydrating and keeps my skin soft and supple all day long.  Best of all, it doesn’t let me makeup slide off my face at the first sign on humidity.

Yves Rocher Soothing Bath Oil with organic Orange blossom ($10.50): A few drops of the Yves Rocher Soothing Bath Oil in my bathtub is enough to sooth my skin after a long day of work or the beach.  The orange blossom is invigorating and seals in the moisture all night long.  I also use it to soak my feet after a long day.

Nature’s Gate Pomegranate Sunflower Skin Defense Lotion ($9.49): This is one of the myriad of lotions I have in my cabinet but for summer, I love the smell of pomegranate and sunflowers on my skin.  I use a little bit of the lotion on my skin after my shower and apply my sunscreen fifteen minutes before I leave the house.

Yves Rocher Vetiver from Haiti Revitalizing Shower Gel ($4.00):  I take the day off or get an early start to my day with the Yves Rocher Vetiver from Haiti Revitilizing Shower Gel.  The scent is not overwhelming, which means all the other products I apply after my shower won’t be fighting each other for attention in the smell department.

Frownies Rose Water Hydrator Spray ($9.58): Rose water makes everything better.  I put my bottle in the fridge and spritz it on my face when I need a pick-me-up during the day. The pure rose water revives my skin and keeps my skin dewey all day long. I learned about this tip from stylist June Ambrose, who swears by rose water on all her trips.
