Tom Ford devotees know that their love doesn’t come cheap. The designer cranks out lavish collections with hefty price tags only celebrities and those with six figure incomes can afford. Were it not for his beauty collection – not cheap but in a palatable price range – I would not own anything by him. Come April, big spenders can rejoice in knowing that Tom Ford will be launching an eyewear collection with an impressive $2,950 price tag.
The collection is inspired by fifties silhouettes with frames for both men and women. So what makes these glasses worth $3,000? Each pair of eyeglasses is made from gold-plated metal and water buffalo horn. That is not all! The frames and soft leather case come inside a Bakelite box, along with a certificate of authenticity, special cleansing cream and a chamois cloth (fancy term for soft leather used to polish jewelry and glasses). That’s really fancy! Thank God I got lasik years ago because I might go broke trying to save up for a pair.
