Karl Lagerfeld to Appear in Supermarket Editorial Feature in French Elle

March 14, 2012

Does Karl Lagerfeld really want us to think he’s one of us? Pssh! On the next issue of French Elle, hitting newstands this Friday, the Kaiser poses for the magazine in a supermarket. Imagine that! In one of the image released by WWD, Karl is seen picking out stain remover in the supermarket while models Saskia de Brauw and Caroline Brasch Nielsen, wearing his Karl Largerfeld’s new collection, look casual with their shopping cart in the background.

The eight page feature also includes an interview with the Chanel and Fendi creative director, whose own higher priced line, Karl, is soon to launch.  In it, Lagerfeld says is in awe of the junk food selections at grocery stores and admits he’s never set foot inside a supermarket, except for the photoshoot.

“It’s the first time I’ve stepped into a supermarket. It’s crazy — fascinating what one can buy. There’s enough here to easily gain 20 kilos.”

On being chauffeured around: “I haven’t driven since I was 18,” he recounts, “and that’s a benefit to society because I ended up in a ditch, without knowing why!”
