Yves Saint Laurent just confirmed the return of menswear designer Hedi Slimane to the French fashion house following the exit of Stefano Pilati. Previously. Slimane, who left Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Homme for Dior Homme, has dressed A-listers like Karl Lagerfeld, Mick Jagger, Pete Doherty, Nicole Kidman, Charlotte Rampling and Madonna, yet he’s never been responsible for designing a women’s collection before. He is lauded as a menswear superstar and the heads at PPR, which owns the YSL brand, are confident he will bring new energy to the brand.
Slimane, as creative director of YSL will have “total creative responsibility for the brand image and all its collections,” while continuing to pursue his career in photography. His first collection for YSL will be resort wear, which will show in Paris this June.
