The Door Knob, A Modern Twist on the Classic Bun, at Emilio Cavallini

February 29, 2012

I went backstage of the Emilio Cavallini show during fashion week to talk to the hair stylist, Yann Varin of Varin Salon, about the concept behind the sophisticated door knob bun he and his team gave the models for the legwear presentation.  Yann gave me the step by step guide achieving this easy style that can work for both day and night.

Yann used L’Oreal Professionals products to achieve the Door Knob Bun.  The complete list include:

  • L’Oreal Professionals Mythic Oil
  • L’Oreal Professionals Lift Extreme
  • L’Oreal Professionals Perfect Shimmer
  • L’Oreal Professionals Infinium 4
  • L’Oreal Professionals Lumi Control

Creating the door knob bun is very easy.  Moisturize and smooth hair with L’Oreal Professionals Mythic Oil.  Then section the hair horizontally in half, spray the roots with L’Oreal Professionals Lift Extreme, then gather the top section into a pony tail.  Twist the ponytail into a small bun and secure with hair pins. Spray hair with a light mist of L’Oreal Professionals Perfect Shimmer.  Take a small dollop of L’Oreal Professionals Lumi Control to smooth fly-aways and polish the bun.

Next, divide the remaining half into two sections vertically, so half the hair is on the left and the other on the right (repeating the products used above on each section).  Grab the left section and twist around the first bun created, and secure with bobby pins. Then gather the last section and wrap around the bun, creating a door knob.  Secure with bobby pins and spray fly-aways with the L’Oreal Professionals Lumi Control.
