Last night’s Super Bowl XLVI ended in one of two ways, you were either jumping for joy or pouting like a big baby experiencing a repeat of pain from the 2008 Super Bowl as Eli Manning and his New York Giants triumphed over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots (don’t cry for Tom, he’s got Giselle and a huge, sprawling mansion in California). It was a win-win at halftime though when the legendary Madonna took to the stage to perform for the first time in God knows how long.
With a stellar cast of music heavy-hitters flanking the performance, I can only describe the show as well, nostalgic and somewhat explosive. There were appearances by chart toppers Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj and LMFAO, as well as a rare appearance by MIA. Madge, dressed in an opulent gold robe designed by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, and an equally impressive headpiece, opened with her club anthem VOGUE (she seemed to just go through the motions with the choreography). The music medley then transitioned to ‘Music’ and a highly entertaining choreography with some b-boys dressed in Adidas suits.
Nicki Minaj and MIA, dressed in cheerleader costumes, joined Madonna on the stage for the debut of her single Give Me All Your Lovin,’ which then transitioned into a marching band entering the stage lead by Cee lo Green as its drum major. Cue Open Your Heart and Express Yourself. Madonna changed costumes again, donning a black long sleeved robe, also by Givenchy, to sing Like a Prayer. At this point, everyone at the party I attended was on their feet, dancing and singing along. The show ended with a darkened stage and the phrase ‘World Peace’ emblazoned in the sea of darkness and cellphone lights. Check out the video and photos below and let us know your thoughts on Madge’s performance.
