Television and film actresses brought the heat to the red carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, held in Los Angeles, California this evening. Hollywood’s A-listers and up-and-coming starlets dazzled in some the season’s best gowns, with seductive silhouettes, deep plunging necklines, perfectly coiffed hair, rouged and nude lips, millions dollar diamonds and accessories to boot.
It seems these starlets, like Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, have adopted the nude color palette, showing off a wide range of gowns in varying shades of the shade. Rouge and red were bold colors worn by the heavy hitters like Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman. Red carpet darlings like Claire Danes, Sofia Vergara, Charlize Theron and Diane Lane did not disappoint either. Adding to the caliber of the red carpet were the fairly newcomers like Emma Stone, Sarah Hyland, Shailene Woodley and Evan Rachel Wood, who no doubt will be showing up on red carpets during awards season is looks to kill.
Kate Beckinsale stunned in a square neckline Roberto Cavalli gown that showed off her toned and sexy physique. The Underworld starlet’s nude gown, with an embellished bustier was accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewels, Casedei pumps, and Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.
Nicole Kidman has been a red carpet staple for decades, but her style has waned a bit over the years. For tonight’s event, she sparkled in a nude Versace gown that screamed sexy elegance. The studded gown hugged all the right areas of her body, showing off her curves and lovely decolletage. Her milky complexion glowed with smokey eyes and slightly darker nude lip. Keeping her hair down made her look a lot more youthful. Completing her look were a Fred Leighton jewels, Manolo Blahnik shoes, and Roger Vivier clutch.
Charlize Theron, as a Dior spokes model, has access to hundreds of vintage and couture pieces from the French fashion house. The Young Adults actress exercised her right to wear Dior by donning an Ah-MAY-zing nude, deep plunging gown with a sexy side slit for the Golden Globes tonight. Always the vision that she is, she kept her look elegant with barely there makeup and nude lips. She completed the look with jewels by Cartier and Givenchy shoes.
Natalie Portman kept a low profile this year with her engagement and the birth of her baby boy Aleph but turned up on the red carpet tonight looking like an old Hollywood starlet in a pink rose hued gown from Lanvin. Natalie, who served as a presenter at this year’s award ceremony, accessorized with Harry Winston jewels.
Emma Stone is well on her way to become a style star with her stunning red carpet looks. For tonight’s event, the 23-year-old actress wore a custom-made deep plum tulle siren gown with raspberry paneling side insert and strong embroidered shoulder from Lanvin. She completed her look with Lorriane Schwartz earrings and a Cartier clutch. Those sultry eyes of hers were accentuated even more with navy and plum shadows.
Angelina Jolie can do no wrong on the red carpet. The sultry actress looked ever so regal in a white Atelier Versace gown accented with a red fold-over neckline. She wore her hair pulled back to show of her iconic face. She channeled an old Hollywood screen siren with sultry eyes and rouged lips.
Viola Davis held her own on the red carpet tonight in sexy one shoulder Emilio Pucci gown with a daring thigh slit to show of her gams. The Bordeaux colored gown was a welcomed change from all the nude and blush colors worn by so many of the actresses on the red carpet. Completing Viola’s look were Jimmy Choo heels, Fred Leighton jewelry, and carrying a Judith Leiber clutch. Her short coif with side swept bangs highlighted the smokey eye and lightly stained berry lips. She had us chanting Viva Viola!
Evan Rachel Wood gets our award for most daring gown at this year’s Golden Globe awards. The peacock feathered Gucci gown grew on me as the nigh wore on. She received a Best Actress in a Supporting Role nomination for her work in HBO’s Mildred Pierce mini-series. We love the pop of color with the pink lips.
Sofia Vergara has become red carpet heavy hitter since hitting the awards red carpets as a cast member of the hugely popular ABC comedy series Modern Family. The feisty Colombian actress knows the silhouettes that work for her body and sticks with them. For the awards season red carpets, Sofia chooses the mermaid/body-con silhouette to show off her ample decolletage and sexy curves. For tonight’s event, she wore a custom made Vera Wang peacock strapless mermaid gown with millions of dollars worth of Harry Winston jewels.
Michelle Williams deserves an Oscar for her knockout performance as Marilyn Monroe in the critically acclaimed movie My Week with Marilyn, for which she received the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress (Comedy or Musical). For her acceptance, the actress wore a deep blue, elbow length sleeved Jason Wu dress with Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, Fred Leighton for Forevermark jewelry, and a Judith Leiber bag.
Claire Danes walked away from tonight’s awards show with a Golden Globe for her performance in the Showtime original series Homeland. Of course she won a Golden Globe and accepted her speech in a gorgeous black and white gown by J. Mendel. She pulled her look together with rouged lips and an updo. She accessorized with Bulgari jewels, Tiffany & Co. clutch, and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes.
Elle Macphereson doesn’t age! The svelte model turned designer won me over looking like a vision in a Zac Posen gown. The dramatic train, with ripples of tulle looked elegant and modern on her. She kept her signature blond locks down in layers with a slight wave.
Jessica Chastain sizzled in a white Givenchy gown that showed off her figure. The turtleneck of the dress was pure drama with elegant beading. The Help actress, who got a Best Supporting Actress nomination, wore her long hair slicked back and accessorized with Harry Winston jewels.
Jessica Alba has bounced back from pregnancy beautifully and showed off the hard work she’s been doing since giving birth in a strapless Gucci gown. The 30-year-old actress accessorized with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, Bulgari jewels, and a Roger Vivier bag.
Sarah Hyland keeps improving her style each time she steps on the red carpet and we’re glad to see that she’s learned to memorize the name of the designers she’s wearing for the big awards. The Modern Family actress proved she could hold her own next to fellow cast members Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara, wearing a strapless nude, lace Dolce & Gabbana gown. The mermaid body-con gown showed off her curves and that small waist, which was cinched with a doubled black lace belt. Her slightly messy updo (must have taken notes from Taylor Swift) kept her look youthful.
Shailene Woodley has come a long way since becoming popular on the teen drama Secret Life of the American Teenager. She stars opposite George Clooney in the much buzzed about movie Descendants, which earned her Supporting Actress not at tonight’s big show. The 20-year-old actress looked effortlessly glam in a strapless Marchesa gown and accessorized with Tabitha Simmons shoes.
Paula Patton who presented at tonight’s ceremony was a vision in a strapless, canary yellow Monique Lhuillier gown, that complimented her olive complexion. The Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol starlet accessorized with Kwiat jewelry and Jimmy Choo heels!
Diane Lane is my everything! The ageless actress proved once again that her candle still burns bright next to younger A-list actresses. Wearing a nude embellished Reem Acra gown, Miss Lane looked not a day over 35 as she showed off her flawless figure in the body-con silhouette. Congrats to her for the Best Performance in a Miniseries or Television Film nod for her role in the HBO drama film Cinema Verite.
Lea Michelle wore one of my favorite looks from the Marchesa Spring 2012 collection. The long sleeved silver gown with sheer insets was (forgive our French) fucking sexy as anything on the Glee actress. I knew this gown would make it on the red carpet during awards season but did not expect it on Lea. Kudos to her for taking a risk with this dress and making it her own.
