Perez Hilton Hosts One Night Only Benefit Concert in New York City

October 24, 2011

Perez Hilton is perhaps the most famous blogger in the world with a loyal following on his eponymous gossip site as well as quirky fashion spin-off blog Coco Perez.  With such notoriety and appearances on television, film and music videos, it’s no wonder he can pack the Hammerstein Ballroom and bring to the stage some heavy hitting acts for a one night only concert to benefit the LGBT community.  Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men, DJ Moreti, Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D and many more hit the stage for a high octane concert during the OpenSky presents Perez Hilton’s “One Night In New York City.”

Many reality stars attended the event, which could only mean one thing, gossip galore.  Tensions ran high when Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Kim Granatell aka Kim G. showed up as her TV rival Caroline Manzo’s children Chris, Albie and Lauren were walking the red carpet.  While the Manzo’s continued posing for pictures, Kim refused to step on the carpet until they were clear, opting instead to pose for pictures off the carpet with her new SOUL by Ludacris headphones and at the Brita FilterForGood Music Project booth.  Just as photographers realized they were getting caught in the middle Real Housewives of New Jersey drama, the Manzo family rushed off the carpet to catch a live set from Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D.

Missing out on all of the drama, Real Housewives of New York’s Sonja Morgan made a late appearance on the red carpet telling guests she had skipped out on her family’s charity gala to show up and support her friend Perez Hilton.  The self-proclaimed philanthropist was overheard telling a friend that she “left the baroness for this event” before they debated whether to “hunt for rich boys” at The Regis or the Boom Boom Room. She also joined my friend Whitney and me at a restaurant next door for some bubbly.  She dished with us about the show and the firing of some of its prominent cast members.

Before hitting the stage, the dapper trio of Boyz II Men had to deal with a minor case of Bieber Fever.  Though the R&B crooners are typically the ones doing the wooing, the group fell head over heels for Justin Bieber while recording a track with him for their new album, saying that he was “one of the most real people” they had ever met.  The Bieber charm had clearly rubbed off on them as they took the stage and won the hearts of every female in the crowd, tossing red roses to their fans as they sang classics, including “I’ll Make Love To You” and “End of the Road.” Guess they are not the only ones liking the young artist right now, as DJ Pauly D arrived in a Bieber shirt snacking on popchips.  The trio have a new album coming out this week.

From the red carpet to the stage, Mary J. Blige stole the show at last night’s OpenSky presents Perez Hilton’s “One Night In New York City.”  As she walked the carpet in a sexy glittery Versace jumpsuit, Mary J. was overheard telling a fan about her new album, which will be released next month.  Featuring all-star duets with both Nas and Beyoncé, Mary J. recorded the album to “inspire and move people in many ways.”

With the album wrapped, the singer is already making plans for her next adventure, telling fans she would “love to go on tour with Nicki Minaj” and laughing when asked if Beyoncé’s pregnancy will interfere with the music video of their new track at the Music Choice’s SWRV TV booth.  Before taking the stage, Mary J. told fans to be on the lookout for Lil’ Kim, saying the rapper is “relaxing right now, but she can have a comeback.  She has never let us down.”  With a new album, a duet with Beyoncé and a Lil’ Kim comeback, Mary. J. Blige gave fans a lot to look forward to in the coming months!
