Lady Gaga’s alter ego Jo Calderone opened up the MTV Video Music Awards with the single You & I from her latest album wearing a white t-shirt, the Brooks Brothers ‘Fitzgerald’ Fit pants and black boots. The cigarette smoking Calderone then presented the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to Britney Spears, whom he credits for inspiring Gaga and a slew of singers in the room. Though Jo did not snag a kiss as he wanted from the Princess of Pop, he got to accept the Best Female Video award on behalf of Gaga later on in the show.
