August 24, 2011

The consummate jet-setter and lover of all things start-up, Johnica Reed is the go-to girl for global living in a digital world. An admitted gadget junkie and early adopter, she was named one of HP’s Tech Tastemakers and works as a cool hunting consultant, helping brands develop out of the box consumer engagement strategies.

From South Africa to Haiti, to China and back, she racks up over 200,000 frequent flyer miles each year traveling between clients and creative projects. A trusted voice in tech and travel, she teaches for Mediabistro and her work has been featured in Jetsetter, EBONY, and branded campaigns launched by American Airlines.  Check her her must-haves for traveling light yet chic on her globetrotting adventures.  Follower her adventures on Twitter at @JohnicaReed.

1. My Tumi Vapor Carry-On
For trips 10 days and under, I’m a carry-on only girl.

2. The O.G. by Lo & Sons
This tote has forever changed my travel life. As a wired jet setter, the endless compartments make it easy to schlep my 11-inch MacBook Air, iPad and Bose Q15 Noise Canceling Headphone around. It even has side pocket for shoes (which is usually where I stuff my cameras)!

3. Clare Vivier La Pouchette
I love CV’s line of handbags and this envelope style wallet is just the right size for a passport, credit cards, and a bit of cash.

4. White + Warren Cashmere Travel Wrap
I skip the airline blankets and bring my own cashmere wrap.

5. Elizabeth and James Hudson Aviators
As “pilot’s glasses,” aviators are my travel frame of choice. I love this modern take on the classic style.

6. Canon 7D and Powershot G11
I’ve dabbled in photography since 7th grade and shoot with a 7D on “serious occasions”. The G11 is in my bag at all times for those everyday moments.

7. The lastest issue of Monocle
Monocle is a must-read for a polymath like me who loves to keep up with all things international affairs, culture, design and business.

8. Nars The Multiple
This all-in-one makeup stick is a life (and space) saver.

9. Statement Necklace
Bold accessories take up very little space in my luggage and add instant flair to a simple tee or dress. Stateside, I lean toward pieces by Stephen Dweck and Ranjana Khan, but I’ve found some of my favorite necklaces at souks in the Middle East and jade markets in Asia.

10. Vitamins
Spending an average of 200,000 miles in-flight each year can take its toll on even the most experienced globe trotter. To help counter the effects of my country hopping, I’ve enlisted these convenient GNC vitamin packs.
