The business of fakes in the fashion industry has been a big problem for years and its one problem that the CFDA, eBay and several magazines are tackling in full force. eBay and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) asked 50 fashion designers to customize a signature canvas tote bag with the phrase, “You Can’t Fake Fashion,” on the front to be sold on the auction site’s Fasion Vault. Designers like Donna Karan, Jason Wu, Calvin Klein, Marchesa, Rebecca Minkoff, Vivienne Tam, Botkier and many more stepped up to the challenge and created gorgeous bags that are currently sold out.
eBay and CFDA feted the launch of the collection last week with a Summer Soiree at the newly opened Dream Hotel Downtown in Chelsea last week. Fashion insiders, magazine editors as well as the designer who contributed to the project came out for the rooftop event. Of course the bonus was getting the change to go home with one of the standard tote bags, which I intend to customize myself.

Guests mingled by the pool with designers while enjoying light bites, sparkling wine and cocktails while lounging poolside. The rooftop of the Dream Hotel Downtown is one Summer hangout spot you must try if you haven’t done so already.
